Top seed at stake in final regular season home game

In the blink of an eye, the home schedule for the Cedar Valley CourtKings (12-1) has gone by. From the April 7 home opener to last weekend’s win over the Broncos, the CourtKings have dominated at home, defending their unbeaten streak at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. While a playoff berth and a top two seed has already been secured for the upcoming MBL Playoffs, Cedar Valley has the chance this Saturday, June 22 to lock up the top seed and home court advantage through the MBL West Division Playoffs as they play host to the defending league champions T.C. Elite.

No stranger to the Kings for the past year, T.C. Elite has put together another strong squad looking to defend their 2018 MBL title, where they upset the CourtKings in the second round on the St. John’s University campus last July in Minnesota.

In their previous meeting on May 11 in Minneapolis, both teams traded blows in a game where the three point basket was crucial. Former CourtKings Darius Campbell drained six baskets from downtown as he and Rodney Williams led the way for the Elite with 22 points each. In the final minutes, the CourtKings defense was able to prevent the defending champions from scoring after a surge in the Cedar Valley offense gave them a late lead. At the end of the 48 minute battle, it was the CourtKings who came away with the 121-119 victory on Mother’s Day weekend.

Seven CourtKings players ended the day with double-digit scoring figures, led by Emeche Wells and his 25 points. Brady Burford finished with 22, Jaree Crawford with 17, David Stanley with 15, Aundre Hicks with 14 and both Anthony James and Queshawn Roby with 10 points each.

Since that game, the Kings have won six straight as part of their ongoing 11 game winning streak. Cedar Valley defeated the Minnesota Broncos by a final score of 129-101 in their last game on Father’s Day weekend. As for the Elite, they come to Waterloo after a 123-101 win over the North Minneapolis Eagles at home last Saturday.
