Michael Mohlis named Interim Head Coach of the CourtKings

The Cedar Valley CourtKings minor league basketball team and defending champions of the Midwest Basketball League have named Michael Mohlis interim head coach while current head coach Stan Hughes recovers from surgery. “Coach Hughes just about 3 weeks ago underwent a major surgery at University of Iowa hospitals. The surgery was a success but Stan is still rehab’ing from the surgery. Coach Stan is anxious to get back to coaching the team and doing what he loves but it may be another 2 to 3 weeks before he is ready to return as our head coach. Until then our last seasons top assistant coach, Michael Mohlis, will be the interim head coach,” explained Owner/GM Gary Rima.

Billy Campbell is also a new assistant coach on this years CourtKings coaching staff. Last years video co-ordinator for player highlights, Mike Sorenson, is also taking on more coaching duties with the team this season. Carl Clifton is also a volunteer assistant coach with the team.

“We are all anxious for Coach Hughes to get back to 100% healthy from his surgery and that is the most important thing right now. I have total confidence in this coaching staff to have the team prepared and ready for the season. We are getting Coach Hughes video’s of each practice so he will be ready to step right in and be well prepared and knowledgeable on this years players when he can return,” added Rima.

The Cedar Valley CourtKings will play an exhibition game on Sunday March 26 at 3:00pm at the new Charles City competition gym. The CourtKings will host the Wisconsin Game Changers from Appleton, Wisconsin. Admission is just $5 for everyone with kids 10 and under getting in FREE!

The CourtKings will play their regular season home opener at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex on Sunday night April 9 at 7:30pm vs the Minnesota Broncos. The CourtKings start the defense of the MBL title they won last year the day before when the open the season on the road at Milwaukee vs the Milwaukee Storm.
