Lakers-Kings rivalry continues Sunday in Waterloo

Dating all the way back to the Midwest Basketball League’s inaugural season in 2016, the Cedar Valley CourtKings and Minnesota Lakers rivalry has been one of the most captivating matchups in the MBL. Come Sunday night, the two league powers will resume their rivalry when the Lakers visit the CourtKings at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in the second game of a two game Cedar Valley homestand.

Formerly known as the Minnesota Rangers for the first two seasons of operations, the Lakers found early regular season success against the CourtKings, winning their first two meeting all-time against the Cedar Valley in 2016. Since those two losses, the CourtKings have rattled off eight straight wins against the club from St. Paul, Minnesota, the two most notable wins coming in the 2016 MBL Championship Game and the 2017 MBL West Division Final. Last season, the CourtKings swept all three regular season game, two of which were played in Waterloo.

Behind the talent of Art Harris, Quinton Jackson and Roc Rodgers, the Lakers come to the Cedar Valley with a 4-2 record following a 134-102 win over the Rochester Roadrunners last Sunday in St. Paul. The CourtKings picked up their third win in a row with a 138-121 victory over the Green Bay Area Titans. Six Cedar Valley players scored in double-digit figures, led by Jaree Crawford, who scored a team-high 34 points. Emeche Wells scored 24, Aundre Hicks recorded 18, Brady Burford tallied 17, David Stanley notched 14 and Anthony James scored 11 points.

Doors to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex will open at 6:30PM for the 7:30PM tip-off. Adults single game tickets cost $10, while season tickets run for $59. Youth and college students can purchase single game tickets for $5, season tickets for $30, or youth/college student courtside seating for $15.
