Johnson seeing professional action in Spain

After a break out first season with the Cedar Valley CourtKings in 2018, guard Mackenzie “Mack” Johnson is experiencing a new dose of professional action overseas in Europe.

The six foot, three inch, 193 pound University of Sioux Falls product is currently playing for Baloncesto Xerez CD in the city of Chapin, Spain. Due to injuries on the small roster, Johnson was signed to help the team with his outside shooting ability. Johnson will see action in his first game with the team on March 9 when they play Biomedal CB Coria in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

In 16 games in the Midwest Basketball League last season, Johnson averaged 9.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game with the CourtKings, and shot 39% from beyond the arc on the season. Mack also scored a season high 27 points against the Rochester Roadrunners on July 14 a year ago, including seven baskets from downtown.

Johnson will play the remainder of the Spanish season before returning to the Cedar Valley for the 2019 Midwest Basketball League season. Basketball fans can catch Mack and all the CourtKings in action during the 2019 season opener on Sunday, April 7 at 7:30 PM against Iowa Elite Pro at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex.
