CourtKings travel to Chicago Fury Saturday

COURTKINGS HEAD TO CHICAGO FOR SECOND-STRAIGHT WEEK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 04/28/16

WATERLOO – One week after dropping their Midwest League Basketball debut in Chicago, the Cedar Valley CourtKings return to the Windy City for their second game in franchise history.

Following a 109-95 loss to the Chicago Clovers last weekend, the CourtKings (0-1) face the MBL’s other Chicago team – the Fury – at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Red Stern Center. The Fury (1-0) also opened their season on the road last weekend, beating the Wisconsin Storm, 110-89, in Milwaukee.

Two-time Iowa Conference player of the year Andre Norris is scheduled to make his debut with Cedar Valley on Saturday. The NCAA Division-III All-American from Bellwood, Ill., just completed his senior season at the University of Dubuque and helped lead the Spartans to the Iowa Conference regular season championship. Norris averaged a double-double this year and led all Iowa Conference players in scoring at 23.6 points per game and rebounding at 12.0 per game. The league named Norris Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named West Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.com.

Surrounded by the best senior players Division III has to offer, Norris started and scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting at the Reese’s NABC All-Star game held in Salem, Va. on March 19.

The 6’7” forward/guard should help a Cedar Valley line-up that struggled defensively, at times, last week. He’s also expected to add to an offense that was well-balanced against the Clovers. Seven players scored in double-figures against, despite the 14-point loss.

Norris’ presence on the court will be needed against the Fury, who have one the top players in the MBL. Guard John Taylor scored 46 points, pulled down six rebounds, recorded four assists and two steals in the victory at Wisconsin. For his efforts, Taylor was named MBL West Player of the Week.

Taylor started his college career at Mott (MI) Community College, where he guided the Bears to a national championship and was named 2012 NJCAA Division II Player of the Year. Taylor then transferred to NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific, where he led the country in scoring at 27.5 ppg in the 2012-13 season .

Another Fury player who presents a challenge for opposing teams is 6-1 guard Terell Thomas from Brandon University. Thomas scored 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting in Chicago’s win at Wisconsin.

All 14 Cedar Valley games are broadcast live on the team’s website at cvcourtkings.com. Saturday’s broadcast is scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m. with Ben Hupke on the call.
