In their first two seasons of operations, the Cedar Valley CourtKings have faced a handful of teams that have given them a challenge on the road to winning their two Midwest Basketball League championships. Of all of them, the Minnesota Lakers have proven to be one of the toughest teams on the CourtKings road to victory.
Formerly known as the Minnesota Rangers, the Lakers underwent a rebranding process in the past offseason when Jason Sandifer bought the team. Despite going a record of 27-5 in their first two seasons, the Lakers are determined to bring an MBL championship home rather than finish with a good record. The CourtKings (3-0) will play host the Lakers (1-2) this Sunday, May 6 in the final game of the current four game homestand. Coming into what will be the eighth meeting between these two squads, the CourtKings lead the all-time series, 5-2. The two most notable Cedar Valley wins in the series include the 2016 MBL Championship Game, and the 2017 MBL West Division Final.
Coming off a tightly contested win over the Minnesota Broncos last weekend 115-103, the CourtKings will look to improve their 2018 record to 4-0 and extend their 31 game winning streak. The Lakers will come to Waterloo after squeaking by the Rochester Roadrunners 100-93 last Saturday.
The doors of the Cedar Valley SportsPlex will open at 6:30pm with first tip scheduled for 7:30pm. John Leo will have the radio call online at cvcourtkings.com to listen in on the go.
