CourtKings open training camp; Team gets first look at new players

This past weekend the Cedar Valley CourtKings opened training camp, less than 5 weeks from their season opener and the start of the defense of the MBL Championship they won last season.

Recent signings with the CourtKings include 6′ 2″ guard Dylan Hale. Hale’s college career saw him make 3 stops along the way. He initially went to Texas State, then transfered to North Dakota State and finished his college career as an All American at Dakota State. “Dylan brings another sharp shooting guard to the team along with being an excellent defender,” stated team owner and GM Gary Rima. Hale is from the Twin Cities.

Also joining the team is 6′ 4″ Terry Carter from Indianapolis, Indiana. “Terry is a very athletic player who will wow the crowd with some of his dunks and leaping ability and should bolster our rebounding too,” said Rima.

The CourtKings have also added two big men to this years team. 6′ 7″ forward Raheem Tyner played for Coach Stan Hughes at Quakerdale Promise Academy then went to Iowa Western before finishing his college career in Canada for the Manitoba Bulls. “Raheem is very versatile for a big man,” Rima said. “Raheem can post and score inside but also has the ability to step out and hit the mid range jumper and the 3 point shot.”

The other big man added to this years team is BJ Walker from Cincinnati, Ohio. Walker is 6′ 9″ , 260, and played his college basketball at Oklahoma City University and then played overseas in the Virgin Islands. El Salavador and the Domincan Republic. “BJ gives us a true center who is not only a good offensive player on the block but can step out and hit the 15 footer. He also can be that rim protector at the defensive end for us!” explained Owner Rima.

The CourtKings have also strengthened their back court depth by adding 5′ 10″ guard David Stanley who is a recent graduate of Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota. “David is going to be an immediate impact player for us both offensively and defensively. he can play both the point guard and the off guard and is strong, quick and athletic. He came into camp in tremendous shape and is going to be a great fit with this team” said Rima.
