CourtKings get huge road win at Fort Wayne

The two teams that were ranked #1 in the MBL rankings went head to head Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the premier game of the week. The defending MBL champion Cedar Valley CourtKings made the long 7 hour trek to Fort Wayne to take on the 7-1 Fort Wayne Vision. Fort Wayne plays in the MBL East division and not only entered the game on 6 game winning streak but were ranked #1 in the East. The CourtKings were looking to stay unbeaten on the year as they entered the contest 5-0 and carried the MBL West divisions #1 ranking into the matchup.
The CourtKings took a 27-24 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cedar Valley then had a nice finish to the first half and led Fort Wayne by 12, 59-47. The CourtKings offense sputtered in the 3rd quarter where they could muster just 17 3rd quarter points but would still lead at the end of 3 76-71. The CourtKings would build that 5 point lead to 17 in the 4th quarter but the Vision came storming back to tie the game at 91 all. But some solid defense and a couple of critical buckets by Raijon Kelly, Raheem Tyner and Anthony James put the game on ice as the CourtKings improve to 6-0 with a hard fought 108-101 road win.
The win by the CourtKings coupled with a Minnesota Rangers road win at the Indiana Dream sets up a mega match up Saturday at 3:00pm in St. Paul, Mn where the two teams will put their 6-0 records on the line with the outright lead in the MBL WEST also up for grabs. The game will be played at the HRSA Gym in St. Paul, Mn.
The game Saturday May 13 will wrap up a 3 game road trip for the C’Kings as they return home Sunday night May 14th for a 7:30pm showdown with the MBL Select squad. GAME NOTES: Fort Wayne would only lead once during this game and that is when they took a 2-0 lead to start the game. Wakefield Ellison did not play in this game for the CourtKings as he is headed to Lagos, Nigeria to play for the Lagos Warriors in the CBL pro league in Africa. Eric Coleman also did not play in this game for the CourtKings as he was unable to make this road trip. Aundre Hicks nearly recorded his third triple-double as a CourtKing missing it by 1 assist as he had 16 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists. Hicks is the only CourtKing in the teams history to record a triple double and he has two of them. This was the first game that Raheem Tyner was the leading scorer in a game for the CourtKings. Rah ended the day with 26. The CourtKings sizzled from the free throw line hitting 14 of 16.
