CourtKings lose another close one on the road Saturday
St. Paul: With a shot a gaining a share of first place in the Midwest Basketball League standings with 5 games to go, the Cedar Valley CourtKings traveled to the Twin Cities Saturday to battle the first place Minnesota Rangers at the Oxford Community Center in St. Paul. In the first meeting between these two teams the Rangers on their home court escaped with a 93-90 win. This game would see a similar fate for the visiting CourtKings.
Cedar Valley (6-4) got down early in the first half and trailed 21-17 after the first 12 minutes of play. The CourtKings rallied with a big 2nd quarter scoring 28 points and took a 45-44 lead into the locker room at the half. At the end of three quarters of play the CourtKings extended their lead to four leading 72-68. But just like in the first meeting between these two teams it would be a battle right to the final seconds. The Minnesota Rangers (8-2) took the lead late in the fourth quarter and when an Anthony James three missed in the final second of play the home team Rangers escaped with a 101-98 win.
5 CourtKings scored in double figures led by Marvin Singletons’ 24 points. Anthony James and Lamar Wall scored 15 each. Wall would have a double double in this one as he also led the team with 10 rebounds. Alex Coleman added 11 points and Andre Norris would get 10.
Damien Lolar led the Rangers with 32 points and Roc Rogers added 25.
The CourtKings played this game without 2 key players. Wakefield Ellison is recovering from a hand injury he suffered in the win back on June 25th against the MBL Select team. Gage Heffernan also did not travel with the team as he had a relative pass away and was at the funeral services this past weekend. Both are expected to return to the lineup next Saturday when the CourtKings travel to Lincoln, Illinois for their first game ever at Lincoln against the Lions.
Marvin Singleton will miss this coming weeks game at Lincoln. Singleton is making a second trip to China on a basketball tour. He left Sunday for China.
The Cedar Valley CourtKings game this Saturday at Lincoln, Illinois will be a 6 pm start with the game to be played at Lincoln College.
