Consecutive Division Opponents Await CourtKings

In last weekend’s doubleheader road trip to Minnesota, the CourtKings returned home after splitting the weekend trip with a win over MBL Select and a nine point loss to T.C. Elite, their first loss in 708 days. Standing at 10-1 with five games remaining in the regular season, the two-time defending champions will once again face a weekend doubleheader, this time splitting a home and road game.

Saturday night’s home showdown with the Minnesota Lakers (7-3) will be their second of their three meetings on the season. The CourtKings proved victorious in their last game with the Lakers back on May 6th with a 122-113 win that featured a CourtKings rally in the third quarter to push past their longtime rivals. Five CourtKings scored in double figures with Brady Burford leading the way with a double-double of 27 points, 17 rebounds, and one assist. Aundre Hicks scored 23 as Anthony James contributed 22. Eighteen points were also added by Marcus Smith, and David Stanley scored 13. Only separated by 2.5 games of one another, this contest will be crucial as both teams vie not just for the top spot in the Northwest Division, but positioning for the Midwest Basketball League Playoffs next month in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. It is also Cedar Valley Medical Specialists “Bring A Kid To The Game” and College Night. Patrons who buy an adult ticket can get their children in for free. College students can get in for $5 with their student ID’s.

Following the Saturday night game against the Lakers, the CourtKings turn around will be quick as they travel up to Anoka, Minnesota for their final regular season meeting with the Minnesota Broncos (4-6). Having beaten the Broncos on the road back on May 12 by a core of 97-93, the CourtKings will look to complete the season sweep of their rival from northwestern Minneapolis.  During that last meeting, Hicks recorded 21 points, six rebounds, and two assists, as Burford notched a double-double of 15 points, ten rebounds, and one assist. Tip-off is set for 4:00pm at the Pact Charter School.
