The Cedar Valley CourtKings opened the 2019 Midwest Basketball League season with a resounding win over the Iowa Elite Pro last Sunday at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo 123-118. Now for the first time in the regular season, the CourtKings will take their talent north to Minnesota for their first two road games of the season.
Four CourtKings scored in double digits in Sunday’s win as Anthony James led the team with 27 points. Aundre Hicks netted 26 points, while Brady Burford scored 20 and Jaree Crawford notched a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. While only committing nine total turnovers in the win over the Elite Pro, the CourtKings boasted a stellar defensive effort, racking up 13 steals in the five point win.
The CourtKings will play the Eagan Bulldogs on Saturday, April 13 at the Eagan Community Center with a 3:30 p.m tip time. A number of MBL veterans await the CourtKings in this game, including CJ Parker, Bryce Williams, AJ Wilson and Elijah Sabah of T.C. Elite, and Akeem Cubie and Kavaarian Williams of the Minnesota Broncos. The Bulldogs sit in a four-way tie for first place in the MBL West after a 120-105 win last week at the Green Bay Area Titans.
Following Saturday’s game in Eagan, the CourtKings will stay in the Twin Cities area ahead of their Sunday afternoon game with the Minnesota Broncos. Tip off is set for 4 p.m. at the Pact Charter School in Anoka. Entering the second week of the season, the Broncos sit at 0-1 following at 154-130 loss in a shootout with Iowa Elite Pro. In the previous three season, the CourtKings have faced tough challenges from the Broncos, but remain undefeated against them all-time.
