The Cedar Valley CourtKings (2-0) were initially scheduled to play the Minnesota Broncos for the first time this season on the road on April 14, but mother nature had other plans. Now, the Broncos (2-1) will ride into Waterloo this Sunday, April 29 for the first of three regular season meetings.
A week ago, the CourtKings took down the Rochester Roadrunner at home by a score of 118-91 to secure their 30th consecutive win over Midwest Basketball League opponents. Meanwhile, the Broncos split back-to-back games against T.C. Elite, including a 112-97 loss on Saturday, April 21, and a 106-98 win the following afternoon. Having played in the same division since the inception of the MBL in 2016, the CourtKings and Broncos have met seven times in the last two seasons, with the CourtKings claiming victory in all seven, most recently in last year’s West Division Semi-Final playoff game by a 114-98 score.
Though it is still early in the 2018 season, the outcome of this game has important implications, with the winner of Sunday’s game having the opportunity to clinch first place in the Northwest Division. Both the Broncos and T.C. Elite sit one half game behind the CourtKings and the division lead. This could become crucial down the stretch later in the season as team start to vy for playoff positioning.
The Broncos bring stellar shooting from guard Torrell Sutton and Will Porter, while Kavaarian Williams brings forth the ability to create open looks for shots. As a whole, the Broncos bring height and strong blocking ability on defense.
Tip off between the CourtKings and Broncos is scheduled for 7:30pm, with the doors opening at 6:30pm.
