Anthony James signs with The CourtKings

WATERLOO, Iowa–The Cedar Valley CourtKings are excited to announce the signing of former UNI Panther Anthony James to the team. The CourtKings will play in the inaugural season of the Midwest Basketball League, a new developmental minor league with teams in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. The CourtKings will play in the MBL West division.

James, who hails from St. Louis, Mo and Normandy High School,  is no stranger to the Cedar Valley. In his senior year at UNI in 2012-13 he started all 32 games he saw action in as a senior … led the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game … upped his scoring in MVC play to 13.9 ppg … named to the All-MVC Second Team … also named to NABC All-District 16 Second Team … and at the end of his career ranked No. 10 on UNI’s all-time scoring chart with 1,305 career points. As a sophomore and junior at UNI he was honorable mention all conference and was named captain of the all MVC bench team his sophomore year.

James, a 6′ guard, was a redshirt freshman on the 2010 UNI Sweet 16 team and will be reunited with fellow teammate Jordan Eglseder on the CourtKings roster. He will also be joined by former teammate Marvin Singleton in the inaugural season of CourtKings basketball.

Anthony James has previously played professional basketball in Venezuela, Mexico and this past winter in Portugal.

“It is really exciting to bring AJ back to the Cedar Valley and have him play for our team,” stated CourtKings owner/GM Gary Rima. “AJ played some outstanding basketball in his days as a Panther and also brings some pro experience with him to the team. This is another great addition to our team.”

Season tickets are now available for the 2016 season. You can order them online at The CourtKings home opener is Sunday night May 15 at 7:30pm at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex at 300 Jefferson St, Waterloo. The season opener is Saturday April 23rd in Sioux City against the Hornets at 6:00pm.
