2017 Season Kicks off this Weekend for the Cedar Valley CourtKings

Less than 8 full months after winning the first ever Midwest Basketball League Championship the Cedar Valley CourtKings are back at it in defense of that title they won a year ago!
This weekend the CourtKings will not only play one game they will play two to start the new season.
On Saturday afternoon at 2pm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the CourtKings will take on the Milwaukee Storm. The Storm are also in their second year of operation and they will get the first crack at last years MBL champions.
Then on Sunday the CourtKings return home to play their home opener in the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo. Game time is 7:30pm as the home team hosts the Minnesota Broncos. You will want to arrive early as the CourtKings 2016 title team will be in attendance to receive their championship rings and also the 2016 MBL Championship banner will be unveiled!
The CourtKings played one exhibition game prior to the start of the season and that was two weeks ago in Charles City where they defeated the Wisconsin Game Changers 137-124.
Top returning players you will see in action on Sunday night off last years title team include the MVP of the MBL Playoffs and former UNI Panther star Anthony James. Wakefield Ellison is back for his 2nd season with the Cedar Valley CourtKings after a stellar season a year ago. Aundre Hicks is another returning player who played extremely well last year especially down the stretch of the season and in the playoffs where he record the first ever triple double for the Cedar Valley CourtKings. Alex Houston is back to bolster the inside play. The former NAIA All American from Mt. Mercy is expected to have a big year this coming season. Matt Craft and Ty Richardson return for their second season with the ‘Kings also.
A number of new players highlight this years roster also. Guards David Stanley and Dylan Hale are both excellent shooters but also bring a toughness to the defense. The CourtKings will have more size inside this year with the additions of 6′ 9″ BJ Walker, 6′ 8″ Johnny Jackson and 6′ 7″ Raheem Tyner. Also wearing the purple, black and white will be Raijon Kelly and Terry Carter. Both are 6’ 4″ and very athletic. Kelly and Carter both signed with the CourtKings this past winter after attending an open tryout. Kelly then signed to play professionally in Lithuania and just joined the CourtKings this past week in the teams final weekend of training camp. Queshawn Roby and Alex Landers round out the ‘Kings 15 man active roster.
Two players off last years title team are expected to the join the CourtKings when they are done with their overseas team. Former UNI Panther Marvin Singleton is currently playing for the London Lightning in the NBL-Canada pro basketball league and NCAA D-3 All American from the University of Dubuque Andre Norris should rejoin the CourtKings in Late April after playing in Spain for CB Clavijo.
